VIDEO: Arsenal starlet Joel Campbell firing Costa Rica to the World Cup

Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell played a key role in Costa Rica qualifying for next year's World Cup.

For the first time since 2006, Costa Rica will be heading to the World Cup next summer.

With USA and Mexico traditionally securing the top two spots, Costa Rica were beaten to qualification by Honduras in 2010.

This time around Costa Rica capitalised on Mexico's poor form, which leaves their qualification hopes on a knife edge.

Costa Rica booked their place thanks to a 1-1 draw with Jamaica which took them four points clear of third place Honduras in the CONCACAF section.

There are three spots available and two games to spare and Costa Rica's qualification place has been assured.

Premier League fans, and particularly those of Arsenal, can look forward to seeing Joel Campbell at next year's tournament.

The youngster has not played for the club since signing, and has been on loan at Lorient, Real Betis and now Olympiakos with work permit issues a complication for player and club.

Playing in a World Cup will only help his case, and the 21-year-old had a key impact in Costa Rica's penultimate game against group leaders USA at the weekend, which meant they only needed a draw against Jamaica to qualify.

With the score at 2-1 to the Costa Ricans, Campbell broke away and fired home a clinical winner to see the home side run out comfortable 3-1 winners.
