VIDEO: Former Liverpool pair net for Portugal and Argentina

Former Liverpool stars Raul Meireles and Maxi Rodriguez both bagged goals for their countries last night.

Meireles left the club in 2011 to join Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea, spending a short spell with the Blues between 2011 and 2012 before settling at current side Fenerbahce in Turkey.

The midfielder bagged Portugal’s only goal of the game as they went down 3-1 at the hands of Brazil in a friendly.

It was a very clever goal, which came about due to Meireles’ ability to read the game and anticipate as he capitalised on a poor mistake from former Manchester City full back Maicon.

Maxi Rodriguez only left the club last year, as he returned home to play his football in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys.

His goal in Argentina’s comprehensive 5-2 win over Paraguay in the latest round of South American World Cup qualifiers showcased a great piece of team play.

It was the end product of a typical piece of Argentinian play; good build up, good passing and good movement which ultimately left him with a very easy and simple chance which he slotted home comfortably.

What do you make of each goal?
