Arsenal morning news: Starlet criticised, Rosicky injured, Marica talk continues

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Here's all the latest on Arsenal this morning.

Former England U-21 boss Stuart Pearce has launched an astonishing attack on some of his players for choosing to play with the senior team instead of playing under him.

He mentioned Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, who had played in the U-21s before establishing himself in the senior squad.

Pearce told the Daily Express: ‘The odd one was injury, but apathy played a big part – the Oxlade-Chamberlains of this world, the Phil Joneses, because they didn’t want to come. Once they go through the ivory towers of the seniors they don’t want to play with the U21s’

Arsenal pair Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil were both on target for Germany last night as they beat the Faroe Islands 3-0 to edge closer to securing their place at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Mertesacker pounced on a flick on from a corner before Mesut Özil converted a second half penalty.

There was some bad news though as Tomas Rosicky was taken off with an injury while playing for the Czech Republic, it looked to be nothing serious but it was reported that he had suffered a thigh strain.

He shouldn’t be out for long, with an exact diagnosis unavailable, but it is expected to keep him out of the weekend’s trip to Sunderland.

Ex-Schalke player Ciprian Marica is close to joining Arsenal according to his agent, he is without a club since leaving the German team at the end of last year.

The Gunners are in need of a striker after failing to secure one during the transfer window. Olivier Giroud is currently their only fit experience striker at the club after Lukas Podolski suffered a torn hamstring and Yaya Sanogo returned from international duty with a back strain.
