New West Bromwich Albion signing Diego Lugano has shown just how highly he rates Luis Suarez, describing him as one of the top two players in the world.
Lugano told Uruguayan newspaper El Pais:
"After Messi, we have the best striker in the world. For years, luckily, we have Suarez.
"I'm very pleased to have a player like him as a companion, and we, Uruguayans, we must be very glad to have him."
Lugano indirectly states that he ranks Suarez better than Cristiano Ronaldo, a player he saw at close hand while on loan at Malaga last season.
Suarez scored twice in Uruguay's 2-1 win over Peru, showing his sharpness has not been lost over the course of the summer and his extended Premier League ban.
Uruguay presently sit fifth in the South American qualifying section, behind Argentina, Colombia, Chile Ecuador, and as things stand face a potential play-off.
Lugano will no doubt have the date of October 26 pegged in his diary, when if he can force his way into the West Brom side, Liverpool will have Suarez back from suspension and the duo can go head-to-head.
Is Suarez better than Ronaldo? What do you think?
