It may be several months until the recently closed transfer window re-opens, but Spanish newspaper AS have several interesting pieces of transfer gossip they are reporting.
Here they are, and our snapshot assessment of the possibilities:
Carlos Vela to Borussia Dortmund
It's claimed that former Arsenal attacker Carlos Vela is wanted by Borussia Dortmund, with Robert Lewandowski likely to depart within the year. This ignores the fact the two are very different types of players. Lewandowski is more the archetypal strike while Vela is a player who likes to drift wide and is full of tricks and flicks. He is currently at Champions League club Real Sociedad, and his future will likely depend on how their campaign pans out with a mid-season move unlikely. Vela is destined for greater things and Dortmund would be an excellent move for him, but it's more likely to be next summer.
Karim Benzema and Iker Casillas to Arsenal
Quite simply you cannot rule anything out when it comes to Arsenal at present. One minute Mesut Ozil looked like just a pipe dream and 24 hours later the German was posing with the shirt having sealed a £42.4 million deal. It is claimed Benzema is the man Arsene Wenger wants to add to his attack to complement Giroud, but the pair are similar in style and Wenger may prefer a different option. Benzema has been first choice, but how Madrid shuffle the pack to accommodate Gareth Bale could see him forced onto the bench and Cristiano Ronaldo played up front. Benzema is said to be happy in Madrid, but the Ozil deal could cause him to reconsider.
Iker Casillas is a world class goalkeeper whose career is stuck in a rut. He remains the Spanish number one, but that position could be in doubt for the World Cup with him presently second choice at Real Madrid to Diego Lopez. If the situation does not improve by January, and either player find themselves on the bench regularly then a move away could be possible.
Cristian Tello to Liverpool
This is an old one but AS claim Tello is back on Liverpool's agenda as a loan option in January. That's surely the only way this one could happen with Tello just signing an extended contract which saw his buyout clause treble. Liverpool have made no secret they are after wingers, and as a loan deal they could hardly go wrong here. However they have recently added Victor Moses on loan and may prefer to look for a more permanent option as talented as Tello certainly is.
Which do you think is most likely?
