As Manchester City’s players prepare to return to Premier League duty this weekend, striker Sergio Aguero has been praising his teammates.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport, he said, “I am convinced we are stronger than last season. It will be a really competitive Premier League, but we have a good squad to win and I would say we have a staff a little better than United and Chelsea.”

Following two disappointing performances against Cardiff and Hull prior to the international break, Aguero will be hoping to score the goals that fire City above current leaders Liverpool. And defensively Manuel Pellegrini may be able to call on Micah Richards against Stoke City on Saturday, following the England player’s injury absence.

The Daily Mail reports that Pellegrini will make a decision on Friday regarding Richards. With Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis both absent, the City manager will hope to add to his defensive options with the return of the 25-year-old; especially with a new Champions League campaign beginning next week.

Another City defender has been in the news, with Gael Clichy saying he would consider a move back to France in the future, should his time at the Blues come to an end.

Who knows, Ligue 1 is now really attractive with PSG and Monaco,” he said, “and if the opportunity arises, I would be happy to play in France because it is my country. But I feel good in England. I like the English and the football is so passionate.”

And finally, Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero has claimed he was a target for City this summer.

With question marks remaining over the long-term future of Joe Hart, yet another ‘keeper has been thrown into the mix as a potential replacement.

Speaking to the Sun about his former boss in La Liga, Caballero said, “I knew of his intention to take me with him to Manchester City. But I was unsure whether he would stick with the same ‘keepers he had already.”
