Rangy striker Emmanuel Adebayor, 29, of Tottenham Hotspur has wished former Spurs team-mate Gareth Bale well following the Welshman's record-breaking move to Real Madrid, a club the Togo international himself represented for half a season on a loan basis in 2011.
However, the former Arsenal ace also mentioned that Bale only had one strong season, when he was afforded more license on the pitch by manager Andre Villas-Boas which thus liberated his movement, increased his goal return and enhanced his overall attacking threat.
Adebayor reminded Bale that, prior to his triple-crowning player of the year campaign last year, he struggled for form for seven years. Speaking to Standard, he said: 'The [transfer of Bale] does not change anything [for the club].
'He is a very good player. Last year was a great year for him but it was seven seasons since he was there and it was high time he achieved a very good season.
'Now he will play for the biggest club in the world and I wish him much success.'
