Ms. Hill advises financial institutions on regulatory and commercial matters and has extensive experience assisting fund management companies, banks, corporate finance houses, brokers and other financial institutions on a wide range of regulatory, compliance and commercial matters. Earlier in her career, she was Director of Legal for the Threadneedle Group and worked in the Enforcement Department at the United Kingdom Investment Management Regulatory Organisation (predecessor to the UK Financial Conduct Authority).
Ms. Hill is recognised as a Leading Individual by Chambers UK 2013, which notes “her in-depth knowledge of the FSA” and commercial focus. She is also recognised in Legal 500 UK 2013 and was recently voted Best Legal Adviser – Regulatory and Commercial at the Compliance Register's Annual Compliance Awards.
Timothy Hester, chair of the Covington’s management committee, noted that Ms. Hill is a strong addition to the firm’s London office, which has grown steadily over the past few years in the areas of international arbitration (with a focus on energy disputes), anti-corruption, insurance coverage, corporate, life sciences and now financial services. 'Charlotte brings an in-depth knowledge of the regulations governing the European financial services market and the regulators who govern those markets. This will be a significant benefit to our clients around the globe', Hester said.
Bruce Bennett, co-head of Covington's securities and capital markets practice, commented: 'The response to the financial crisis in Europe - both at the EU level and at the member state level - has been equally as momentous as the passage and implementation of Dodd-Frank in the US. Our clients have an increased need for advice on the interplay of new regulations being adopted in the EU with corresponding regulations in the US, as well EU and UK matters on a stand-alone basis. We believe Charlotte’s arrival will be extremely helpful to these clients seeking guidance in an ever-changing landscape'.
John Dugan, chair of Covington’s financial institutions practice and former US Comptroller of the Currency, added: 'Charlotte will be a tremendous asset to the firm, advising our financial institution clients on compliance and investigatory matters relating to a wide range of new regulations in the financial markets. She brings in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of the new regulations and experience with the regulators seeking to enforce those regulations'.
Hill said: 'The move to Covington provides me with a platform to further build and expand my existing practice, which is complementary to the firm’s securities regulatory, public policy and government affairs capabilities in London, Brussels and the United States. This is a very challenging time for the global financial services industry, and one that demands coherent thinking from the advisory community, which is the holistic approach practiced by Covington'.
