All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Reports at the weekend claimed Manchester City would make a bid in January for FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala. And while some would say transfer rumours just a week after the window has closed are a little too much too soon, the Daily Mail has reported quotes from the player stating that he is flattered by City’s interest.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old said, “I am delighted to continue and progress with Porto. I like the club and I never asked to leave and they were not willing to sell me in the first place.

Man City is nowadays one of the big clubs in the world so you are always flattered by their interest in you.”

With Manuel Pellegrini having signed Martin Demichelis as defensive cover, a question remains as to whether he will move for the Frenchman when he can. Although wherever he plays in the future, Mangala is destined to make quite a name for himself at the top level.

In injury news, David Silva has withdrawn from the Spain squad and returned to Manchester. The midfielder suffered a thigh injury and will not be risked in tomorrow’s match against Chile.

Silva is now a doubt for the weekend match against Stoke City, where the Blues will face their former manager Mark Hughes.

The Stoke boss has been talking about his time at City, and his ultimate departure, to the Mirror.

I don’t hold any resentment about that,” Hughes said. “The fact was I drew too many games and gave them the opportunity to go in a different direction.”

He will now have the chance to get one up on his old club when the two sides play on Saturday.
