A round up of the latest news and gossip about Tottenham Hotspur from the past 48 hours.
German international Lewis Holtby says he is confident he still has a future at Tottenham despite the number of midfielders available in the first team squad. Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Christian Eriksen were among the summer arrivals, providing even more competition for the 22-year-old.
Eriksen was an £11.5 million arrival from Dutch club Ajax and he’s revealed he snubbed an approach from Borussia Dortmund before sealing a move to Tottenham.
“Dortmund was interested, and they approached me - they were interested, and there was a phone call from them. But it's a long time ago and a lot has happened since,” he told Danish newspaper BT.
However, former Spurs favourite Ossie Ardiles says it will be Erik Lamela who has the biggest impact over the course of this season. Ardiles believes the Argentinian arrival from Roma has the raw talent to be able to replace Gareth Bale who moved to Real Madrid in that world record deal.
Bale himself has pleaded with Tottenham fans, urging them to try and understand why he left the club this summer.
“They were amazing and Tottenham will always have a place in my heart. I hope they understand Real Madrid is an absolute massive, massive club and they will understand and respect my decision,” the Welshman told Sky Sports.
However, it looks as though it’s going to be difficult for some supporters to get over the move with a Spurs supporters’ group demanding an end to the strategic relationship the club holds with the Spanish side.
Spurs youngster Tom Carroll says he pushed for a loan move away from the club. The talented midfielder will play his football this season under Harry Redknapp at QPR.
“I could have stayed at Spurs and sat on the bench but at this stage of my career I feel I need to be playing,” he told Sky Sports.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Emmanuel Adebayor says he has never thought about leaving the club this summer. Adebayor was linked strongly with a switch to Turkish club Besiktas over the summer.
Spurs youngster Alex Pritchard continues to impress on loan at League One club Swindon Town. The 20-year-old scored a stunning free kick for Swindon yesterday as they drew 1-1 with the MK Dons.
One current star who could find himself in trouble when he returns to White Hart Lane following the international break is defender Kyle Walker. The Mirror has revealed pictures of the full back inhaling what was expected to be laughing gas while on a night out.
