The Chelsea midfielder continues to churn out decent performances at the top level of the game and his early season form in the Premier League means he’s as important as ever for the English national side.
As he closes in on his 100th cap to join a very small group of players who have reached that landmark, it seems fitting to look back on some of his best goals while wearing the three lions.
England v Brazil
Lampard scored what turned out to be the winner for England earlier this year in a friendly match against Brazil, one of the best teams in the world.
Lampard produced a superbly place shot which went in off the post as the Brazilians gave him far too much space on the edge of the area.
England v Germany - World Cup 2010
Lampard produced a superb strike against Germany in the World Cup match that England went on to officially lose 4-1.
This effort wasn’t spotted by the officials so it wasn’t awarded as a goal but it would have drawn England level at 2-2, which could have altered the final outcome of the game.
It was a great hit as he reacted to a loose ball and I don’t think anyone will ever work out why it wasn’t given.
England v Jamaica
This goal from Lampard in a friendly match against Jamaica is probably not the most pleasing England goal he’s ever scored on the eye.
However, it’s a perfect demonstration of how to half volley a ball precisely into a small area of the goal, a showcase of the ample skill he’s shown for his national side.
England v San Marino
This is another goal which is never going to set the world alight but it’s another good illustration of what a clever and precise player Lampard is.
He’s allowed to ghost into the box before receiving a perfect pass, which he places side footed into the far corner with a tremendous amount of traffic from San Marino players trying to clear their lines.
England v Portugal – Euro 2004
England were chasing this game, 2-1 down and they needed one of their senior players to step up and get the ball over the line.
David Beckham floated in a corner which was knocked down with Lampard controlling a strong header quickly before a brilliant turn, slamming the ball home to draw England level.
What do you think is his best England performance?
