Liverpool morning news: Suarez scores two; former player questions Skrtel’s future

A select round-up of news relating to Liverpool, including international goal-scorers and the future of Martin Skrtel.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Jan Molby has questioned the need for his old club to sign two more centre-backs given the fine form of Kolo Toure, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel.

After three-clean sheets in their first three games, Liverpool sit atop the Premier League with a 100% record, but Molby has bemoaned the lack of a “marquee signing”.

A marquee signing is someone who gets you out of your seat like Mesut Ozil, Willian or Henrikh Mkhitaryan,” he said.

He also questioned the future of Skrtel in light of the arrival of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

Given how well Skrtel played against Manchester United last weekend, surely there remains a place for him in Brendan Rodgers’ thinking.

Liverpool players were also on the score-sheet for their countries last night, with Steven Gerrard scoring England’s superb opening goal in their 4-0 win against Moldova.

And while he may have a while to wait before he can play for his club again, Luis Suarez showed he hasn’t lost his scoring touch with both goals in Uruguay’s 2-1 win over Peru.

A controversial penalty following a possible dive in the box, and an excellent high finish from the edge of the area, gave Suarez both the brace and the headlines.
