Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Spurs tried to sign Pato, Carroll shines for England

A round up of the key news stories about Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Brazilian side Corinthians have claimed Tottenham made an approach to sign forward Alexandre Pato.

Pato returned to Brazil from AC Milan earlier this year and the Brazilian side have claimed Spurs enquired about the possibility of getting Pato once it emerged they wouldn’t sign Leandro Damiao from Internacional.

Pato was reportedly desired to provide competition for Roberto Soldado in attack who joined from Valencia earlier in the summer.

On loan Spurs midfielder Tom Carroll was one of the stand out performers as England’sUnder-21 side defeated Moldova 1-0.

Carroll set up the only goal in the European Under-21 Championship qualifier and produced one of his most polished performances at international level.

Carroll joined Queens Park Rangers on loan at the end of the summer transfer window as he looks to increase his first team experience with regular Championship football under former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that the club was under immense pressure during the Gareth Bale transfer saga.

Bale eventually secured a world record move to Real Madrid but AVB says the pressure he put the club under was high but Spurs got a great deal as a result.

“The pressure we were subjected to by the player has been intense. The influence of Real Madrid has been very big and you get to a point where you have to consider if it’s feasible not to accept an offer and whether you can press on with a player in that state of mind,” said AVB.
