One of the latest recruits to Anfield talks up his new supporters while lauding the Premier League as the world's best division.
'I am very proud to have signed at Liverpool; a great club with great fans.'
Those are the words of summer acquisition Mamadou Sakho, as reported by L'Equip, who further quote the French defender to have expressed his delight at competing in the world's top domestic division in front of amazing fans in the Anfield stands.
'Why Liverpool? Because [the] Premier League is the best league in the world, and it was the club that proposed me the project that suited me the best. The officials knew how to convince me.'
Paris Saint Germain have been one of the continent's great spenders in recent windows and brag an impressive roster of players, particularly in defence, where Thiago Silva, Alex and Marquinhos all feature, leaving a fierce competition for places at centre back.
Sakho had been a PSG mainstay for 11 years, through the various levels of youth football, all the way to the senior selection. His ability belied his young age and he had even been touted as a future captain, however, the 23-year-old is relishing the fresh challenge in England.
'My first feelings in the Anfield stands confirmed to me that I made the right choice. They are amazing fans and a very good team.
'The fans' chants are beautiful even if I can't understand English so far!'
