Question marks over Sturridge's fitness after picking up thigh injury
England manager Roy Hodgson said he may be without the Liverpool striker for the trip to Ukraine as he has returned to Merseyside for treatment.
Hodgson said: “When they did the scan at the beginning of the week it was going to be touch and go for Ukraine and possibly even Saturday week.”
Liverpool fans will be fine with him missing any sort of game on Saturday week, as the Reds’ next fixture is in fact on Monday week away to Swansea City.
Steven Gerrard was disappointed at the news that Sturridge will miss the Moldova game but thinks he can ‘shine’ if he returns to the side for the Ukraine game.
“It's a shame for Daniel, the stage is set for him to come and shine and do well.
"Fingers crossed he can come back on Saturday evening, the injury has settled down and he's available for Tuesday. He certainly makes our squad stronger."
Away from the senior side of things, Liverpool had some representation in the international under 21 and under 19 matches taking place last night, notably Andre Wisdom captain of England’s 1-0 win over Moldova, whilst Jordan Ibe played 90 minutes and scored in England’s Under 19’s 6-1 win over Estonia.
Transfer news, and it seems there is still a saga to be had surrounding Luis Suarez, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the striker for a possible bid in the January window if Liverpool decide to soften their stance on the striker.
