Barcelona were linked with several goalkeepers over the summer following Victor Valdes’ decision that he would be leaving the Spanish champions at the end of the current season.
Rumours involving Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and several other top shot stoppers started flying around and it’s now Chelsea’s young Belgian who is reportedly the focus of their attention.
If there is anything more to this rumour other than the natural connection Courtois has with La Liga then Jose Mourinho and Chelsea would be perfectly within their rights to demand a Barcelona player coming the other way if they wanted to do a deal.
Courtois is clearly seen by Chelsea as Petr Cech’s replacement so if he ultimately decides he wants to stay in La Liga, Chelsea have to try and get some value coming the other way.
Here are five candidates.
The 22-year-old centre back would be a good fit for Chelsea’s back four, giving Mourinho several different options with John Terry not getting any younger.
It’s a transfer which would allow Mourinho to continue using Branislav Ivanovic at right back with a pool of quality centre backs in the form of Terry, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Bartra.
The Argentinian defensive player would be a cracking signing for the Blues because of his versatility.
He could cover at centre back but also offer Chelsea a defensive midfield option, which would subsequently allow the club to move on John Obi Mikel who was linked with a couple of moves away over the course of the summer.
Busquets is an out and out holding midfield player with plenty of experience sitting in front of the back four, getting the ball moving through the midfield up towards the attack.
His skill and ease in possession would be very useful for Chelsea and the support he would offer to the talented pool of midfielders Chelsea already have available would give the Blues a greater chance of maintaining spells of pressure in key situations.
Sanchez has been routinely linked with moves away from Barcelona as he struggles to nail down a first team place on a regular basis.
The summer arrival of Neymar has meant another attacking player ahead of him in the pecking order and Sanchez is a good wide option for Chelsea if Liverpool try to buy Victor Moses permanently at the end of the season.
Pedro would be a superb attacking signing for Chelsea because he covers multiple positions.
He can play anywhere along the attack and on either side of the pitch as a winger. He is used to a slick passing game and has great decision making skills in the opponent’s final third.
The only possible worry with him is his size and the chance he could get bullied in English football but that’s something Chelsea could compensate for.
Which Barca star would you like to see arrive if Courtois heads to the Nou Camp?
