Liverpool morning news: Regeneration plans approved, Skrtel move was blocked

A round up of the key news this morning relating to Liverpool.

Plans to regenerate Anfield and the area surrounding the stadium have been given the green light by the majority of local residents.

Residents and business in the area have backed £260 million regeneration plans to create a transformed Anfield which will not only benefit the football club but the people who live in the surrounding streets.

Over 1,700 members of the public have so far provided feedback on the proposed plans with 80% voicing their approval.

Central defender Martin Skrtel has revealed Liverpool refused to let him go to Serie A side Napoli.

The Slovakian says former Reds boss Rafa Benitez wanted to take him to Italy but after speaking with Liverpool, they said they were not going to sell him.

Skrtel produced one of his best performances in recent memory in Liverpool’s last Premier League game as they beat arch enemies Manchester United 1-0 at Anfield.

England Under-21 defender Andre Wisdom says he is aiming to follow in Steven Gerrard’s footsteps at Liverpool.

The defender was recently confirmed as the captain of the England Under-21 side and he cites Gerrard as the person he wants to copy in his new leadership role.

“Steven Gerrard is a great captain for club and country. You can learn a lot from him, especially being young. I am a defender and he is a midfielder but it doesn’t matter what position you play,” said Wisdom.
