Liverpool and Everton could benefit from Barca agreement with Santos

FC Barcelona

Barcelona have paid Brazilian side Santos for first refusal on three of the club’s best young players.

It seems the Spanish champions are taking no chances of a repeat which saw them have to fork out well over €50 million for attacking magician Neymar, paying for a unique agreement with the Brazilian club.

Sides in the Brazilian league have produced some of the greatest players currently gracing the European game so it’s a sensible and forward thinking move on the part of the Spanish giants.

However, what the agreement means for the current crop of youngsters trying to break into the Barcelona first team is unclear.

It’s possible that several of the current talented teenagers at the club will see the move as a sign Barca don’t have complete faith in their ability to be effective at the highest level for one of the greatest squads of players there has ever been.

That could signal a straight up frenzy for those younger players which is superb news for any Premier League or European side that currently has an interest in one of the current crop of younger players at the Nou Camp.

Roberto Martinez would never admit it in a million years but privately he could be very happy with this deal because he currently has Gerard Deulofeu on loan at Goodison Park.

If the Spanish youngster has a decent season with Everton then it opens up the possibility of a permanent deal next summer, especially if Barca are considering investing in three young Brazilian stars.

Liverpool could have one eye on Barca following this agreement because of their interest in Cristian Tello earlier in the summer.

It’s not impossible that the 22-year-old striker may feel a little let down by he club after he signed a new contract with them and he could easily be tempted into a big money move next summer if his chances of breaking into the Barca first team on a more regular basis are threatened.

If that’s a deal which never happens then it’s not the end of the world for the Reds because Isaac Cuenca is another player they have been heavily linked with, another 22-year-old who has spent a lot of time on loan over the last couple of seasons.

Then there’s Bojan, currently on loan at Ajax, who may see an influx of Brazilian talent as a reason to move on permanently from the Spanish side.

Tottenham Hotspur are a Premier League team who have been previously linked with the 23-year-old and the temptation to join one of the best squads of midfielders in England will be very tempting. They have also been linked with midfielder Sergi Roberto, tipped as the next big thing.

On the more defensive side of things, Marc Bartra and Martin Montoya both have a foot through the door in terms of getting into Barcelona’s first team, but again Spurs have been linked with Bartra and Liverpool with Montoya so cheeky bids are possible.

Barca have shown great initiative with this €7.9 million deal but they could be forced to fend off a lot of interest this January and next summer than they may be expecting.

If they are swayed into sales, the fact they have another potential line on the conveyer belt of talent to delve into, will likely help that decision.
