Why Manchester United would be wasting their time going back for Fabregas

If Manchester United ever try to sign Cesc Fabregas again, it will be completely pointless.

David Moyes made a couple of very public bids for the Spanish midfielder which were quickly rejected by Barcelona.

There was talk that United were going to make a third offer and there are still lingering hopes that the Old Trafford side will look at having another go at getting Fabregas this winter or next summer.

Theoretically they should have a good chance because Arsenal’s signing of Mesut Ozil means the Gunners would more than likely pass on their first choice on re-signing Fabregas which would leave United in the clear.

That will always be the danger for any side looking to try and get their hands on Fabregas because the Gunners will always be offered the first chance of buying him.

However, the man himself has implied that United are not a big enough challenge and that’s the reason any future bid for him would be fruitless.

“The tougher the challenge the better I like it and Barcelona was the biggest and most difficult, and I want to finish in a happy manner and if I can retire at Barca, then so much the better,” said Fabregas.

In a sense he has a point because he’s trying to break up the dynamic duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta which has controlled the heart of Barcelona’s team for several years, way back to before the Pep Guardiola era.

The pair of them still have plenty of years left in the tank with Xavi only 33-years-old and Iniesta only 29-years-old which means Fabregas is going to have to work his socks off to break up that partnership any time soon.

It’s also a challenge for the entire Barcelona side at the moment because Bayern Munich exposed frailties in their team last season, which we haven’t seen for a very long time.

The effect that drubbing from Bayern Munich had on the current crop of players is making them more determined to be successful this season and Fabregas is very much a part of that.

“The only thing in my head is triumphing at Barcelona - It was my dream since I was small. I wouldn't go, not even for double the money,” he added.

He’s one of the best creative central midfield players in the world and as long as Barcelona can keep him under contract, eventually he will work his way towards becoming the first name down on the team sheet every week.

He’s not too far off that point at the moment but he’s made it very clear that even if United offered to pay Barcelona £100 million and offered to make him the best paid player in the game, he’d still more than likely not go anywhere near the offer.

Do you think United should have another crack at getting him? Who else should the be focusing on?
