Can Arsenal fans trust Nicklas Bendtner?

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has told the club’s fans he is fully committed to the cause this season.

It looked as though the Danish centre forward was going to move on transfer deadline day but when those plans fell through Bendtner found himself looking at a season of uncertainty in Arsenal colours.

The success of Olivier Giroud up front for the Gunners so far this campaign has led to questions over who will fill in should the Frenchman pick up an injury and Bendtner is one of the obvious candidates.

Both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have both expressed a desire to play through the centre of Arsenal’s attack but Arsene Wenger seems to have preconceptions over whether they can fully perform as a sole striker as opposed to playing off of someone else.

For all of the negativity which has plagued some of Bendtner’s decision making as a professional footballer, he’s not a stupid man and will realise that he could have a chance he wasn’t expecting to play in Arsenal’s attack this season.

Therefore, he’s done well to move very quickly to assure fans who could get on his case that he will go all out to be a success for the Gunners if he does indeed get that chance.

“I want to assure all Arsenal fans that I will give everything I have to contribute. It's no secret that Arsenal and myself had agreed that I could leave the club during the 2013 summer transfer window subject to an agreement between all parties,” said Bendtner.

The fact Bendtner may get a chance this season that he wouldn’t have been expecting could work very well for him and Arsenal may be a little surprised by the sort of passion and commitment they end up getting.

Bendtner endured a miserable spell on loan with Serie A giants Juventus last season where he failed to score in all of his appearances for the club.

He may have started to accept that he would have to move on to a lower profile side than Arsenal meaning that the recent part of his career could have the effect of working as an eye opener to make him realise how lucky he is to still be at Arsenal.

“Many things have been said about my where my future lies after many years at Arsenal. The truth is I just want to play football which is when I'm happiest and Arsenal is a fantastic environment for any professional to apply their trade,” he added in his statement.

The issue now for Bendtner is getting fit and staying fit and convincing Wenger that he shouldn’t have any worries about throwing him into the team should Giroud pick up a slight or a more serious knock at any point this season.

Arsenal are now staring at a very important season following the arrival of Mesut Ozil where there is a real ambition that the club could lift some silverware.

It’s a very encouraging sign that Bendtner has addressed any possible questions over his desire to be an Arsenal player and his presence in the Arsenal squad should undoubtedly be seen as a positive rather than a negative.

Arsenal fans, how much of an impact do you expect Bendtner to have? Do you trust him?
