Five superstar Germans who could follow Ozil to Arsenal

Who else will Mesut Ozil tempt to Arsenal?

He is not the first German at Arsenal, but Mesut Ozil might just be the most important.

Lukas Podolski, his international teammate along with Per Mertesacker, has said he expects Arsenal to sign even more Germans in the future.

But who could they add? Here are five exciting possibilities...

Marco Reus

There is no denying the immense talent of Marco Reus, the 24-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker. Reus is versatile enough to play across the front three, but performs most regularly at Dortmund on the left - a position where Arsenal do not have an out and out winger. Lukas Podolski may well welcome his arrival, as it will push him back into the centre to compete for a main striker's position.

Lars Bender

Arsenal had one, or two bids - dependent on who you believe, rejected by Bayer Leverkusen this summer for Lars Bender. The defensive midfielder is an asset who would dramatically improve the Arsenal squad. If Leverkusen cannot match Bender's ambitions of silverware, Ozil could tempt him to Arsenal.

Ilkay Gundogan

Arsenal were linked with Ilkay Gundogan earlier this summer, but convincing Dortmund to sell the midfielder seemed unlikely. Now after their addition of Mesut Ozil, can a mega-deal really be ruled out, with Dortmund cashing in on Nuri Sahin and Shinji Kagawa in recent years?

Emre Can

Emre Can is one of the most highly rated young midfielders in the Bundesliga. Like Ozil he is of German-Turkish heritage, but has so far committed his international future for Germany, playing for them at youth level. The 19-year-old signed for Leverkusen from Bayern Munich this summer, and his progression as he plays regular football in the Bundesliga is one to keep an eye on.

Matthias Ginter

Defender Matthias Ginter was linked with Arsenal earlier this summer, but remained at Freiburg. The 19-year-old is an under-21 international who has been tipped to replace Per Mertesacker in the senior side. Can he do it at club level too? Ginter's versatility means he can also play as a defensive midfielder, which could also be useful for the Gunners?
