Chelsea morning news: Mourinho on Ba, Cahill to start for England

A round up of the key news this morning relating to Chelsea.

In an interview with the Daily Mail Jose Mourinho has revealed he stopped Demba Ba from joining Arsenal because he fears the Gunners’ title chances.

Arsenal made an approach for Ba on transfer deadline day and were willing to pay £1.5 million to make the deal happen.

However, Mourinho refused to let the move go through as he didn’t want to see one of his strikers going to a team that could hurt the Blues in the title race.

Chelsea centre back Gary Cahill says he welcomes the backing of England boss Roy Hodgson.

Cahill has arguably been Chelsea’s best defender so far this season and he is likely to start both games for England against Moldova tomorrow and Ukraine this Tuesday.

“It’s great he said that. Being the No1 choice would be ideal. It’s what you always aim for and ultimately if I can do that it would be great,” said Cahill.

On loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku says he expects regular playing time at Everton.

Jose Mourinho granted the move on the final day of the transfer window, as he said it wouldn’t have been fair on Lukaku to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian is one of the most exciting attacking prospects in the Premier League and this is his second loan spell in as many seasons following his time with West Brom last year.
