Manchester United - Wayne Rooney posts 'horror' head injury pic

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney today defended his absence from international duty by posting this photo on his Facebook profile.

We all know that Rooney is out of the England squad that prepares for two World Cup qualifiers this week, but for those that doubted the severity of his head injury, the striker has just posted a picture of it on his official Facebook page (see below).

The 27-year-old suffered a deep cut in what is described as a freak training ground collision with Manchester United team-mate Phil Jones last week.

Manchester United boss David Moyes said the striker could be out for three weeks due to the severity of the injury and sources say that England team-mate Theo Walcott has described the photograph as 'like something out of a horror film'.

Wayne Rooney Head Injury

Roy Hodgson will be forced to turn to alternative striking options as he prepares a side to first face Moldova at Wembley on Friday before jetting off to face Ukraine on Tuesday in what will be a far tougher game.

Rooney is not the only notable absentee from the England squad with other senior players Glen Johnson and the culprit in Rooney’s injury, Phil Jones missing out too.

Johnson limped off with an ankle injury during Liverpool's 1-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, while Jones was also substituted after suffering a similar injury.
