Have Manchester United been given a boost in their long-term ambition of bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford?
Manchester United were linked throughout the summer with a mega-deal to bring back former icon Cristiano Ronaldo.
The £80 million man is said to harbour ambitions of a return to Old Trafford, still stalling over signing a new contract at Real Madrid.
And the latest developments will not have helped; the sale of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.
Several stars, including Sergio Ramos and Isco have expressed their surprise at the transfer - but Ronaldo is particularly vocal in his displeasure.
He told Spanish newspaper AS: "Ozil's departure is very bad news for me."
"He was the player who knew my moves in front of goal the best. I'm angry about Ozil leaving."
This is clearly not going to make Ronaldo feel any better about signing a new contract to stay at the Bernabeu.
Manchester United have been heavily criticised for their poor transfer efforts, and focusing on securing a big name addition while the window is closed is one way to ensure the same mistakes are not repeated.
It is a stretch to imagine Ronaldo being sold mid-season, but by time next summer rolls around and he has just one year remaining on his present deal, Manchester United may just go all out to bring back the freescoring forward.
Do you have any faith the club could get such a deal done? What do you think of his comments?
