When he was playing in the Confederations Cup earlier this summer, it's pretty likely that Julio Cesar did not imagine playing in the Championship next season.
Of course that was no decision of his own, QPR were relegated and no offers came in for him that QPR were minded to accept.
Cesar says that he believes he can fulfil his ambitions with the club, and it will not harm his standing with the Brazilian national side.
He told Brazilian news outlet GloboEsporte: "I never thought about leaving from QPR."
"The words from Scolari that he will keep an eye on those who play in the minor leagues, they gave me a certain peace of mind ahead of the World Cup.
"I do not think that playing in the Championship could jeopardize my call."
Whether he is being entirely truthful in his comments is another matter.
As well as Arsenal, the goalkeeper was linked with Italian duo Napoli and Fiorentina.
His agent Josias Cardoso said in early August: "Julio Cesar likes Fiorentina, so they could be the right team for him to target a World Cup spot."
Still, QPR fans probably won't mind a little white lie. The fact is they have Cesar available, and he seems happy enough to still be there.
And that can only bode well for their promotion campaign, and making right the mess which was last season.
