Arsenal morning news: fans get shirty over Özil, Wenger said made Rooney and Benteke bids

Arsenal club shop has been inundated with customers buying Mesut Özil replica shirts since he joined the club on Monday night, while online sales where 12 times higher than average.

There's been lots of interest in the player joining the club for record fee of £42.4m on transfer deadline day.

And the German midfielder gave his first interview since joining the club to TV in Germany.

He said: 'The Premier League is the strongest league in the world and it will challenge me and I want to prove I'm with the right club.'

'I can't wait and I'm looking forward to it, the fans are very emotional over there, they are crazy about football and I'm looking forward to taking on the league.'

Arsenal players took to twitter to welcome Özil to the club - Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey where all excited about playing with their new teammate.

It was reported also that Arsene Wenger made deadline day moves for a number of other players including Wayne Rooney, Christian Benteke and PSG's Javier Pastore. He was clearly going all out to land a striker that would have made it an almost perfect day for Arsenal fans.

Finally, the Arsenal squad had yet another boost as it was announced that both Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta could return to training after the international break, though a return to action would still be a few weeks away.
