United have announced the signing of a 17-year-old right-back.
Manchester United fans bemoaning their club’s lack of summer signings can relax somewhat tonight, following the news that the champions signed not one player yesterday, but two.
Along with Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, David Moyes also finalised a deal for…wait for it…Saidy Janko!
No, me neither. But the 17-year-old Swiss-born right-back has moved from FC Zurich for an undisclosed fee.
Also comfortable playing on the right wing, there is no suggestion that Janko will make waves in or around the first-team just yet.
Instead he is likely to work with the lower age groups in the hope of one day challenging Rafael and Guillermo Varela.
At a time when United fans have been bemoaning a confusing (and some would say amateurish) transfer deadline day, at least Fellaini didn’t turn out to be the only piece of business carried out at Old Trafford yesterday.
Will it appease the fans who expected so much from this transfer window? Of course it won’t. But at least Moyes was doing something as the clock ticked towards 11:00pm.
