Three free agent midfielders Manchester United can still sign

Fear not Ed Woodward! Manchester United can still add players.

So it was not exactly the best of transfer windows at Manchester United, a dismal affair in fact which has seen fans call for the head of new chief executive Ed Woodward.

But it is not too late for the Red Devils to add to their squad, with some talented players left for one reason or another on the free agent scrapheap.

We have picked out three midfielders that Manchester United should consider adding to their ranks to bolster their options.

Nikola Drincic

Montenegro international midfielder Nikola Drincic is arguably the most valuable free agent left on the market. Drincic is a defensive midfielder with 29 caps to his name, who was only released from his contract at Russian club Kuban Krasnodar on deadline day. Formerly of Spartak Moscow and Partizan Belgrade, he has played in both the Champions League and Europa League. He tore his ankle ligaments in February, but has since regained fitness, playing for Krasnodar against Lokomotiv Moscow in early August. He is expected to feature for Montenegro at Wembley in October, providing he can find a club.

Franco Zuculini

Real Zaragoza released talented Argentine Franco Zuculini amid acrimonious circumstances earlier this summer. Zuculini was nursing a cruciate ligament injury sustained in January, and angrily described his release as comparable to a pregnant woman being sacked. The defensive midfielder is only 22, and has excellent potential, handed an Argentina cap by Diego Maradona back in 2009. His previous clubs include Genoa and Hoffenheim, who paid £4 million to bring him to Europe. Zuculini has recently been training with Inter Milan, but it is not too late for United to offer him a contract.

Cristian Lobato

A new left-winger anyone? It may be a bit of a project, but Manchester United could finally get their hands on a Barcelona man this summer after all. Lobato is 24, and was released by the Spaniards in the summer after failing to progress into the first team. He scored seven goals and provided six assists playing alongside Gerard Deulofeu for Barcelona B last season.

Would you like to see United chase any of the trio?
