Barclays has added Paul Knight as vice chairman and co-head of global metals and mining from UBS, where he was chief executive officer of the Canadian unit.

Bloomberg News also reports that the firm also added Phillip Huang, a telecom equity research analyst also from UBS.

And Bloomberg reports that Barclays has also hired former Morgan Stanley Japan equity strategist Hajime Kitano to bolster research in the world’s best-performing major stock market.

Kitano joined the U.K. bank in Tokyo Monday. Kitano, who left Morgan Stanley in August after about three months, was rated No. 1 equity strategist in Japan this year by Institutional Investor magazine.

Bloomberg reports that Jefferies hired Takaki Nakanishi, the former top-ranked auto analyst at Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch, as a senior equity research analyst covering the sector in Japan.

Nakanishi, who left Merrill Lynch in June to start his own research firm covering the auto industry, was hired by Jefferies, according to an e-mailed statement from the company.

And Bloomberg reports that JPMorgan Chase said it hired Naohisa Ando, a former managing director at Nomura, as head of its new Japan capital market advisory department to boost its fundraising business.

Ando, 49, who helped lead equity capital markets operations at Nomura Securities Co., joined JPMorgan Securities Japan Co. last week, Yukako Yoshino, a Tokyo-based spokeswoman for the U.S. firm, said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

In the meantime, Reuters / IFR reports that Mark Walsh has left his role as co-head of European leveraged finance and acquisition finance at Morgan Stanley and is expected to take up a new position at Credit Suisse, according to several sources with knowledge of the matter.

Walsh left the bank earlier this month, according to one of the sources. Three high yield bankers said Walsh was joining Credit Suisse but did not give details of the job or timing.

Bloomberg reports that RBC Capital Markets has hired Kathy Kriskey as head of commodity investor sales in New York.

Kriskey will be responsible for the company’s commodity investor business with a focus on commodity index products. She comes from CIBC, where she was marketing commodity index products to asset managers, pension plans, endowments and sovereign wealth funds.

Finally, Bloomberg also reports that Alberto Kiraly, the head of investment banking at Banco Votorantim SA for the past five years, left the bank last week.

Kiraly said in a phone interview from Sao Paulo that he’s in discussions with other institutions about possible jobs. He said he left Banco Votorantim as part of a restructuring of the business.
