Crystal Palace have been the busiest Premier League team in this transfer window bring in a total of 13 new players.
Being promoted to the Premier League and avoiding relegation in your first season is no easy task, this puts a lot of pressure on bringing in the right quality of player in order to succeed at the highest level.
Players like Barry Bannan, Adlene Guedioura and Cameron Jerome will no doubt add depth to their squad but will they be good enough to keep them in the Premier League, we’ll find out quickly enough.
On deadline day itself there was a lot going on at Palace’s training ground, they completed the signings of Barry Bannan from Aston Villa, Adrian Mariappa from Reading and tried desperately to complete a deal for Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner and QPR’s Andy Johnson; neither deal was completed.
Overall Ian Holloway will be pleased with his transfer business and after a big win on Saturday against Sunderland they will look to take that momentum into the next few games where they could pick up vital points.
It is always important to have a striker who can score goals regularly if you have a chance of staying up, we saw that with Christian Benteke and Aston Villa last year.
Dwight Gayle, who they signed from Peterborough United, could play that role for them this season; he has looked very bright in the first few games and he will only grow in confidence after scoring a goal in the victory at the weekend.
Despite the business they have done it will still be a struggle for the Eagles to avoid the drop come the end of the season but Holloway has done the best he can to strengthen their squad and do his best to avoid the threat of relegation, however unlikely that may be.
