Liverpool morning news: Ilori could play for England, Suarez aiming for top four

The latest news about Liverpool brought to you this morning.

England manager Roy Hodgson will reportedly make an astonishing plea to Liverpool new boy Tiago Ilori, in an attempt to get him to play for England.

The 20-year-old completed a switch from Sporting Lisbon yesterday and the FA has instantly opened the door for him to adopt England as his home country after he was born in London before returning to Portugal.

Although he has played for Portugal at youth level, he would be eligible for the England senior side after failing to win a cap for the Portuguese senior team.

Liverpool managed to get to the end of the summer transfer window without selling star striker Luis Suarez.

The forward was the subject of two big money bids from Arsenal and there was late interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Suarez has reportedly vowed to win back his place in the Liverpool starting team and help to fire the side into the top four, ensuring Champions League qualification.

It’s an aim which another of Liverpool’s new boys, Mamadou Sakho, has claimed is very realistic.

“My aim while I am here is to play in the Champions League with Liverpool. I remember their teams when they were in the competition when I was younger. The Champions League is a tournament that all the great clubs in Europe participate,” said the Frenchman.

Sakho signed a long term deal from Paris Saint-Germain yesterday morning.
