The closure of the summer market has been the dominant topic amongst the online and printed football press and Chelsea were a key contributor to that due to the departure of Romelu Lukaku on a temporary basis to Everton, the loaning of Victor Moses to Liverpool and the retention of Demba Ba, who was linked with a short-term spell at Arsenal.
Jose Mourinho's transfer policy has come under scrutiny by some fans, who believe the Portuguese strengthened an already impressive area of the pitch; attacking midfield, whilst neglecting (and even weakening) other sections such as the striking department and a world class holding player.
The manager, though, still receives the praises of his playing staff and Brazilian midfield maestro Oscar has lauded Mourinho's tactical nous in the official club magazine: 'It’s been great to work with Jose Mourinho. He is one of the best coaches in the world.
'We have seen he has already had a lot of success at Chelsea and I am just really happy to have the opportunity to work with him. You can already see the influence he has had on us during the first few games and I hope the team will be able to continue to grow under him as I will also be able to grow as a player.
'As early as pre-season we could see the belief with which he works. We could see the confidence he has with us as players but also the confidence within his own work. It is clear to us that he is a great coach.'
In other news, Chelsea have been struck a first-team blow as Eden Hazard has withdrawn from international duty with Belgium due to an achilles complaint.
