Aston Villa's summer transfers: the good, the bad and the ugly

Benteke 2

Paul Lambert surprised many with one of the best signatures in the division…

Aston Villa secured one of the shock pieces of summer business by ensuring prolific hitman Christian Benteke signed a new contract, rather than leave to join one of many clubs interested in his services.

It was a surprising coup for manager Paul Lambert, especially when one considers teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were readying £20m bids, but, perhaps as equally surprising was the willingness in allowing pacey forward Darren Bent to leave the club in favour of Fulham.

The towering presence of late recruit Libor Kozak, though, may go some way in replacing the reliable goal-getting of the Englishman as the Czech Republic international has some height on him.

In total, Villa spent at least £20m.

If Benteke was the good, Bent was the bad, who is the ugly? Tell us in the comment section below…
