Arsenal concluded their transfer window with possibly the best signing of the summer, Real Madrid’s Mesut Özil for a club record fee of £42.5m.
The deal seemed to drag on all day and the clubs only confirmed the transfer in the last hour of the window. Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski took to twitter to welcome their new team mate to the club.
Arsene Wenger also brought in Emiliano Viviano from Palermo, the goalkeeper will act as back-up to Wojciech Szczesny for the rest of the season and it gives the squad some much needed depth between the posts.
The only negative yesterday was Arsenal’s failure to land a striker, their attempts to sign Chelsea’s Demba Ba were thwarted by the West London club. It is now expected that summer signing Yaya Sanogo will backup the in form Olivier Giroud, while Nicklas Bendtner also remains with the club.
The club received some good news that Jack Wilshere was fit and ready to join up with the England squad last night after he was taken off in the North London Derby due to a stomach bug, which also affected Bacary Sagna who wasn’t well enough to start the game.
