Real Madrid want to sign another Premier League star this time for £55 million

According to the latest reports, Liverpool have received a late £55 million offer for striker Luis Suarez, long linked with Real Madrid and Arsenal this summer as we head into the final hours of the window on deadline day.

The Metro claim Spanish giants Real Madrid are ‘preparing’ a ‘massive swoop’ for the controversial Uruguayan international – apparently not content with signing world record breaking transfer Gareth Bale from Tottenham who was unveiled at the Bernabeu earlier today.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are understood to be set to sign Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil in a deal worth £43 million for the German international. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger described the North Londoners’ pursuit of Luis Suarez as ‘dead’ only last week and it I understood the Gunners are hopeful of signing Chelsea striker Demba Ba on a loan move this evening.

With the marquee signing of Ozil expected to be officially announced any minute now, it seems highly unlikely that Arsenal would also bid for Suarez, especially given Liverpool’s unequivocal reluctance to sell him to a domestic rival for the Champions League.

However, the Gunners have also been linked with an audacious £40 million bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema who, one could only hazard a guess, would potentially be replaced by Suarez.

Liverpool were the subject of reports via Marca Radio in Spain that Juan Mata could leave Chelsea – according to reports earlier this evening, Liverpool made a £30 million bid for the Spanish maestro who is also linked with French champions Paris Saint-Germain presently.

It is unclear at this stage whether these reports are founded but sources close to the Merseyside club maintain that Suarez will not be allowed to leave Anfield, despite late interest from Real Madrid. Arsenal’s sudden pursuit of Demba Ba would suggest they have no plans to sign another striker, especially not for a fee in excess of £50 million, which would only really leave Real Madrid as Suarez’ possible suitors - unless, of course, Chelsea did sell Juan Mata.
