Arsenal are being linked with several players today, and two of those are both playing for Palermo in Italy’s Serie B.
In Italy it is reported that one of the deals is done - with goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano reportedly signing a one-year loan deal at The Emirates.
The other player is Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez.
The powerful 23-year-old had a poor and injury struck season in 2012-13 - playing just 15 times and scoring the solitary goal.
But he was informed that if any team came calling for him this summer he would be allowed to leave the club, in order to try and secure a place in the Uruguay team for the 2014 World Cup.
But as Arsenal now line up a loan deal for Demba Ba of Chelsea - it would appear that the interest in the player has waned - and that seems to be the case according to his reported comments today:
"I can only thank Palermo, its people, its society. Yet Zamparini [Palermo president] and the leaders had assured me that if he got a serious offer, they would let me go. I want to go Genoa. I also spoke with Liverani [Genoa coach}, cannot wait to be able to have in the team … to stay in Serie B. It is not an acceptable situation, I want to go Genoa today and Palermo must be satisfied. "
Promoted outfit Sassuolo are also said to be keen on the player, and judging on his recent record Arsenal fans could believe they have dodged a bullet in this case.
He has tremendous talent, which is in no doubt, but his record of just seven goals in two seasons hardly screams Premier League quality - while his fitness issues are also a worry.
So it appears Hernandez is going elsewhere, but Arsenal fans should not be too disappointed.
