Manchester United ‘prepared to pay Spaniard’s release clause’

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims United are happy to pay €36million for Ander Herrera.

There is a lot of talk on a day like today, when plenty of moves are mooted but far fewer actually go through. And yet Manchester United fans will hope the latest words from Guillem Balague prove to be true.

The Spanish football journalist has just broken the news on Sky Sports that David Moyes is prepared to pay Ander Herrera’s €36million release-clause in order to bring the Athletic Bilbao midfielder to Old Trafford.

With less than nine hours until the transfer window closes, United fans will have been growing increasingly worried that no new faces would arrive until January at the earliest. But it seems Herrera could be one of two midfield reinforcements to arrive, with reports also claiming United are in ongoing discussions to bring Marouane Fellaini to the club.

Balague claims that all that stands between Herrera and a move is a medical and the fact that Bilbao are demanding the money is paid in a lump sum.

While the journalist was quick to state that Herrera is not currently worth such a large fee, he said that in time he would become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

In this case, it seems United are buying a good player in the hope he becomes a great one. That is, of course, if the claims are true…
