Manchester United in stunning £34m bid for Real Madrid star?

Sami Khedira

David Moyes may be leaving it late to plug a midfield hole, but the Scotsman is looking to fill it with a physically adept 26-year-old from Stuttgart.

David Moyes is applying a scatter-gun approach to the summer market's deadline day as he has identified a trident of targets for a last-minute push.

However, negotiations with Everton talisman Marouane Fellaini and Atletico Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera have thus far failed to bear fruit and, following that motif, a strong £34m bid for Real Madrid battler Sami Khedira has also been rejected by the Estadio Bernabeu outfit.

Accurate Los Blancos playmaker Mesut Ozil, meanwhile, is said to be disembarking the Real ship — against his will according to some reports — in light of a £42.5m fee lodged by Arsenal. Real accepted the bid, the player agreed personal terms and passed a medical examination but Madridistas have already spoken out against the transfer with some fans even chanting 'Don't sell Ozil!' during Gareth Bale's official unveiling earlier today.

There is, therefore, credence in the opinion that Real may be loathe to offload two first-team regulars considering the backlash that has already surfaced from Ozil's exit. Especially when Kaka has also left the club to return to AC Milan.

While Khedira is reportedly unsettled following Jose Mourinho's switch to Chelsea, current Real managerial incumbent Carlo Ancelotti has moved to assure the player that he remains a vital part of the team and will receive pitch-time during a World Cup year.

The summer window slams shut on 23:00 BST for members of the Premier League.
