Here's some insight just in from a Manchester United fan:
'I was nervous from the off. I'd just seen the Manchester United team to play Liverpool, and I feared the worst.
A midfield of Giggs (on the right) Young (on the left), Carrick and Cleverley, was never going to supply the ammunition to van Persie and Welbeck to get the goals we required.
Giggs, God bless him, has reached the stage where the 'player' part of his title needs to be removed. And Ashley Young would struggle to get into the lower teams in the Premier league and should be sold while he still has some value.
This was virtually the same team that beat Liverpool in the same fixture last season, and that was never going to be good enough, as Liverpool have beefed up during this transfer window and their confidence was high.
The only personnel United have changed on the other hand, have been the management team and, with the utmost respect, unless they bring in some new players we're in danger of going backwards.
Also, why is a centre back playing at right full back ? And, when he's subsequently injured, why is he replaced by a right winger ? Yet, I wasn't aware we had a right back problem at Manchester United.
Our left full back position definitely is a problem, however, and has been for a while. Unfortunately, Patrice Evra is past it. He's not of the standard required to play for Manchester United, and needs to be replaced. And frankly, I don't think Leighton Baines is the answer either - he is only lauded because there's such a shortage of decent left backs.
At the time of writing this, manager David Moyes had signed nobody. If that remains the case at the close of the transfer window later tonight, then I predict Manchester United will win nothing this season'.
