Manchester United are pursuing their interest in Marouane Fellaini, but could they get a helping hand from their neighbours.
As has been made abundantly clear, Everton are going to take a lot of convincing to sell their key midfielder, and will not do so unless it suits them.
It depends on two things: Manchester United stumping up the quoted £25 million asking price - which could at this stage escalate further, and Everton bringing in a replacement.
Everton are aiming to sign Barry on a season long loan deal, with the Englishman surplus to requirements at the club.
City are weighing up the request, and would be advised to hold off on it until the final minutes of the transfer window.
For sending Barry on loan would not only be cutting their own squad short a member, but it could provide Manchester United with the signing David Moyes appears to really want.
Everton will not release Fellaini until they are entirely satisfied everything is on their terms.
That could just be reliant on Barry coming in - meaning Fellaini moving to Manchester United could just sit in the hands of... title rivals Manchester City.
