A round up of the latest news and transfer stories connected to Liverpool.
Liverpool have ruled out the possibility of a late Real Madrid offer for star striker Luis Suarez. Several sources have suggested today that the Spanish giants could make a late approach for the forward with Carlo Ancelotti reportedly unconvinced by the current form of Karim Benzema.
However, that news doesn’t seem to have stopped rumours that Arsenal could make a late bid for the player. The Mirror has reported the Gunners are considering a late offer having already seen bids of £30 million and £40 million turned down earlier in the transfer window.
New defensive signing Mamadou Sakho could find himself thrown in at the deep end by Brendan Rodgers. The former PSG man has signed a long term deal at Anfield and arrives with impressive stats including an 89% successful passing rate.
Sunderland have completed a loan deal for Liverpool striker Fabio Borini. Brendan Rodgers had previously said he would not allow the Italian to be loaned out in the current transfer window but Sunderland have given him a chance to revitalise his career in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers has moved quickly to play down Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title. Liverpool have enjoyed a perfect start to the league season but the boss isn’t getting carried away.
“Thirty five (Premier League games) to go, we won't be getting carried away, we've got a lot of work ahead of us. The initial challenge is to get into top four, and be in the conversation for that as long as we can,” said the boss.
A top four finish is certainly the priority for one of the club’s new signings, Victor Moses, who has joined on loan for the rest of the season from Chelsea.
“The target is to get into the top four and for the club to compete in the Champions League - and I'm delighted to be here. Liverpool is a massive club and I just want to enjoy my football out on the pitch and try to help my team-mates,” said the 22-year-old.
Daniel Sturridge has emerged as one of the early betting favourites to win the Premier League’s golden boot award by the end of the current campaign. Sturridge has scored in every Premier League game this season for the Reds as he continues to fill the void created by Luis Suarez’s absence.
Sticking with a betting theme, the odds for Shay Given to move to Anfield from Aston Villa remain short. Rodgers is thought to be keen on having an experienced back up option to current number one Simon Mignolet who has started the season superbly.
In news not directly related to the transfer market, Brendan Rodgers has taken on a personal fitness regime. The Liverpool boss has reportedly taken on the schedule in order to lose weight and keep himself fit and healthy as he deals with the stress and pressure of coaching in the Premier League.
