The Daily Mail claims that Arsenal have enquired into the potential availability of the 24-year-old Argentine international. Arsenal are set to announce their record-breaking signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid and Pastore would represent another attacking midfielder joining the Gunners’ ranks on deadline day.
It is as yet unclear whether these reports are founded but recent reports on Spanish news source Marca Radio also claim that Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is the subject of interest from Liverpool as well as from the French capital.
The Blues’ maestro has spent the majority of the season so far on the bench under Jose Mourinho and, crucially, was not included in the Spanish national team ahead of their World Cup qualifiers this week.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in the 26-year-old last week but the imminent arrival of German playmaker Ozil would make the signing of Mata seem unnecessary. However, much the same could be said of the potential Arsenal are interested in Pastore as all three players play in the same position.
Meanwhile, it looks as though a confusing ‘domino’ effect on the transfer market could ensue as we head into the final hours on the window on deadline day potentially involving Juan Mata and Javier Pastore going in opposite directions between the French and English capital cities.
Is there a possibility that Arsene Wenger could be turning to Pastore as an alternative target to Ozil’s Real Madrid teammate Angel Di Maria who is expected to remain at the Bernabeu, at least for the time being? It is also unclear as to whether these deals are potentially loan moves or permanent transfers.
Arsenal are understood to be hashing out a deal with Chelsea over the loan signing of striker Demba Ba who is expected to undertake a medical any minute now whilst Manchester United are also linked with Pastore, following their renewed bid for Anders Herrera of Athletic Bilbao.
