Breaking developments

Manchester United are ‘closing in’ on Marouane Fellaini of Everton, according to reports, although his teammate at Goodison Park Leighton Baines is expected to stay.

Fellaini has submitted a transfer request to Everton to ‘force through’ a move to Manchester United this evening, reports of which Everton have not denied. Other sources have suggested Fellaini may be prepared to forego a signing-on fee to get the deal done.

Meanwhile, Demba Ba’s loan move to Arsenal from Chelsea is 'off', as the Gunners have not met the Blues’ valuation of the striker. Reports had emerged that North London rivals Tottenham were interested in the Senegal international but Spurs have reportedly denied such claims.

In the pipeline

Arsenal are expected to officially confirm the signing of Mesut Ozil imminently. The 24-year-old playmaker is expected to join the Gunners for a record-breaking £42.5 million fee from Real Madrid on a five-year contract we understand.

Meanwhile, United could pay £36 million buyout clause for Anders Herrera of Athletic Bilbao, but they must pay the full price up front.

Everton are still hopeful of signing James McCarthy from Wigan this evening, despite having a bid rejected for the midfielder earlier today. Reports this evening suggest Everton have had a £12.5 million offer accepted by the FA Cup winners but there are negotiations in progress over how that fee will be paid.

West Brom striker Shane Long is headed for ‘talks’ with Hull City, according to Sky Sports sources after the two clubs 'agreed a record fee'. The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland striker has left the hotel, according to reporters, on his way to put pen to paper with the newly promoted Premier League side.

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is ‘close’ to signing for Crystal Palace after undergoing a medical at Selhurst Park earlier today – however, recent developments with Arsenal failing to sign Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea may yet thwart the Dane’s move to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Norwich are ‘chasing Ricardo vaz Te on loan from West Ham, according to reports, after the 26-year-old requested a transfer from the Hammers.

In the Championship, Harry Redknapp is hopeful of bringing Niko Krancjcar to QPR along with Tom Carroll from former club Tottenham, as his son Jamie Redknapp revealed as QPR midfielder Shaun Derry extended his stay on loan at Millwall.

Breaking news: Benoit Assou-Ekotto could also make a loan swicth from Spurs to QPR to reunite with his former boss Redknapp but that is yet to be confirmed, other than via the player's Twitter account.

Eslewhere, Middlesbrough have ‘failed’ in their bid for Jelle Vossen of Genk.

Done deals

Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Emiliano Viviano on loan from Palermo with the prospect of making the move for the 27-year-old Italian goalkeeper permanent eventually.

Crystal Palace confirmed the signing of Barry Bannan from Aston Villa for an ‘undisclosed fee’ on a three-year contract for the Scottish midfielder.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa signed Libor Kozak from Lazio on a four-year contract. The 24-year-old striker was the top scorer in the Europa League last term.

Earlier today

Stoke signed Stephen Ireland on loan from Aston Villa. The former Manchester City midfielder will remain at the Britannia for the rest of the season.
