How Manchester United can proactively hurry up the Fellaini deal

Manchester United could try to solve the transfer predicaments of Everton and Wigan Athletic for their own benefit.

If there is one thing we have learned about deadline day today, it's the knock on effect and chain reaction.

Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid has triggered exits of Kaka to AC Milan and Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.

And Marouane Fellaini's move to Manchester United is not dependent solely on cash.

Roberto Martinez wants to get his replacement lined up in advance, that being James McCarthy of Wigan.

Wigan and Everton have been unable to agree a fee, meaning Fellaini's Old Trafford switch has been held up.

But United and David Moyes don't have to be frustrated admirers watching on.

Wigan have expressed an interest as recently as in the last few days in midfielder Nick Powell, to bring him on loan for the season.

United and Wigan have not yet agreed any switch, but it's surely time for David Moyes to pick up the phone and ring Wigan boss and fellow Scotsman Owen Coyle.

In sending Powell to Wigan, the Latics will get their replacement for James McCarthy, smoothing along the midfielder's switch to Everton.

Which in turn will send Fellaini to United, bringing it full circle. Sounds so simple in practice - and for United, surely it is worth a try?
