David Moyes went with Nani on the bench instead of Shinji Kagawa, who United fans feel should be starting anyway.
Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed the Bianconeri have backed off in their pursuit of Manchester United winger Nani today.
The Portuguese winger was deemed surplus to requirements by Sir Alex Ferguson at United - but the arrival of David Moyes appears to have given the wide-man a second chance of impressing at Old Trafford.
Juve were just one of many teams considering a move for the player this summer, as his current contract expires next summer.
But that is no longer the case, with Marotta revealing their interest in Nani has been killed off by a contract renewal:
"He has renewed his contract with Manchester United and we never negotiated for him."
And United fans got to see the player in action once again this weekend, as he made his return from injury against Liverpool at Anfield.
He had an injury ravaged pre-season, with his only real impact coming with a double for a United XI against Crewe Alexandra.
But with Manchester United’s Ashley Young also only just returning from injury - the addition of Nani was made in the second half.
To say he looked rusty would be an understatement - then again Ashley Young was hardly much better.
He showed glimpses of his undoubted talent, with a stinging left-foot drive forcing Simon Mignolet into a sharp save, and were it not for the Belgian’s reactions - I might have been writing a different article.
But even that chance came from a chunk of luck after some poor control, and his touch and delivery were poor throughout his cameo appearance.
Perhaps better is to come from the player, but it won’t stop some United fans from demanding to see more of Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha this season.
The continued decision to leave Kagawa out of the squad is baffling United fans - who do not feel the former Borussia Dortmund creator is getting a fair crack of the whip at Old Trafford.
It is clear that while the jury remains out on Nani and Young the United fans are sure about one thing - they want to see Kagawa playing on a regular basis.
Myes even revealed after the game that he had to choose between Kagawa or Nani for a place on the bench and went with Nani, which left United fans aghast on Twitter.
Not necessarily as a slight to Nani, but more in shock at the decision to place Anderson on the bench ahead of Kagawa as well.
It may be a small fire, but this Kagawa situation may be the next one Moyes needs to put out as Manchester United manager after the end of the Wayne Rooney saga.
Do you think Kagawa deserves more opportunities?
Here are some thoughts from Twitter...
So the truth is Moyes prefers to pick Nani instead of Kagawa on the bench while Young played as starter. Bizzare.— dredarmy (@dredarmy) September 1, 2013
Moyes confirming he didn't pick Kagawa because he preferred Nani is just shocking.— TikiTactic (@TikiTactic) September 1, 2013
Honestly, if Kagawa is fit and Moyes chose to leave him out in favour of Nani, I wouldn't blame the lad if he wanted to leave.— Manchester United (@manutdreport) September 1, 2013
David Moyes confirming Kagawa was not involved because he opted for Nani. What a waste of a talent, he needs to get out of Old Trafford ASAP— Graeme Bailey (@GraemeBailey) September 1, 2013
From now on I don't want to see Valencia, Cleverley and Young starting, I want Nani, Kagawa and Anderson— $ (@monssJJ) September 1, 2013
Nani and Chicharito not in 1st team. Kagawa and Zaha not even in bench. Disappointing team selection by Moyes today. #MUFC— Nafael da Silva (@9fyl) September 1, 2013
Choosing Nani who just recovered over Kagawa who has been fit waiting to be called upon sums it all up.— OZ£D (@ozayblow) September 1, 2013
I feel for Kagawa he is better than Giggs, Young and Nani! Yet he can't get a place on the bench even when Rooneys injured!! #mufc— Ryan Jackson (@RyanJackson99) September 1, 2013
I want to support moyes but he is making it hard.. Selecting Nani instead of kagawa? Forget nani.. Giggs instead of kagawa? @predicamental— سيد حسين (@Syedhu) September 1, 2013
A choice between Nani/Kagawa? Start one or both of them, bench Giggs and leave Young in Manchester. Simple as.— (@Berbaqueue) September 1, 2013
Moyes says he chose Nani over Kagawa. Please sell him, I can't bear to watch such a talent being told he can't play even ahead of Nani. WTF— Nitin (@thenitingarg) September 1, 2013
