Are Arsenal set to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid?
After Arsenal's satisfying 1-0 win over upstart rivals Tottenham, talk has inevitably turned back to adding new players ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
Arsene Wenger confirmed post match the club could still add 'one or two superb players', and would look to surprise the press.
Could one of those be a star man from Real Madrid?
It has been speculated that Mesut Ozil is attracting interest from Arsenal, as well as Manchester United, over the past fortnight.
The German is still looking to adjust to Carlo Ancelotti's regime at the club, having been played in an unnatural wide position, expressing his displeasure at being substituted last week.
Now with a day to go, speculation is ramping up that Arsenal have made an offer for the playmaker, who is valued at £40 million.
Spanish radio Cadena Cope claims the Gunners have made a bid, which journalist Guillem Balague vouched for on Twitter, letting his 460,000 followers know about it.
According to Cope Radio, Ozil COULD leave for PSG or Arsenal. Both offers on the table— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) September 1, 2013
Ozil certainly fits the 'superb player' criteria Arsene Wenger boasted post-match, outstanding last season in La Liga.
In a World Cup year he will want to be in fine form, and being the main man at Arsenal rather than battling for a spot at Madrid could still appeal for him.
Real Madrid's transfer to sign Gareth Bale has this evening been announced finally at £85 million. Madrid could recoup almost half of this by cashing in on Ozil before the window closes.
PSG's interest is also worth monitoring, as if a bidding war begins then Arsenal may walk away, with wages another potential issue.
But with little more than 24 hours to go until the deadline is over, may be Arsenal fans really will be smiling once it is over?
Could Arsenal sign Ozil? What do you think?
