Arsenal transfer news: Montero 'hijack' and Mata deal still on

Juan Mata

Transfer news from The Emirates including Jefferson Montero, Juan Mata, Yohan Cabaye and many more...

Arsenal could ‘hijack’ the transfer of Jefferson Montero to Cardiff City according to reports. The Ecuadorian winger currently plays in Mexico for Morelia and has 27 caps for the Ecuadorian national team.

Arsenal are still considering Juan Mata as a transfer option - but believe he must hand in a transfer request for them to seal a deal for the Spanish international.

Mata looks set to be down the pecking order this season as Jose Mourinho appears to prefer the more industrious Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne to play alongside Oscar and Eden Hazard this season - while £30 million has just been spent on Willian.

While Chelsea maintain that he is not for sale, it is hard to see where he fits in this season and Arsenal are said to be willing to pay £30 million for the player and his wages would not be stumbling block.

Meanwhile Chelsea want to trim their squad and wage-bill, so a bid for the player could just convince their London rivals to sell.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has told Arsenal to make a second bid for Yohan Cabaye quickly or a deal will not be happening:

‘’I don't know until 11pm [on Monday]. We have told his agent, "Look, come on, play the game", because we have got to replace him [if we sell him] and we can't afford to replace him before he goes because we're not sure he is going to go. That bid needs to come in, if it's coming in, early. If not, it won't happen - well, I think it won't happen, but you can never tell with this football club.’’

On top of the players mentioned Arsenal continue to be linked with Julian Draxler, Karim Benzema, Salamon Kalou, Mesut Ozil, Michu, Ashley Williams, Josuah Guilavogui and Angel Di Maria this morning - but who will sign for the club before the Transfer Window shuts at 11pm tomorrow evening?
