Tottenham latest: Including Vertonghen warning ahead of derby and Bale saga

Jan Vertonghen

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale is expected to become a Real Madrid player imminently, no change there then.

The news today however suggests that Real will not break the transfer record for the Welshman - with their offer reaching a price of £78 million.

It is believed this is because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to remain the world’s most expensive player.

But do not expect anything official until after the North London derby on Sunday.

Bale may have not yet completed his move to the Bernabeu, but it seems his boots have.

Spanish newspaper AS – apparently short on actual news – has run a story (and a picture) revealing that Bale’s boots have been delivered to Madrid prior to his official unveiling and ball-juggling ceremony.

Jan Vertongen has warned Arsenal ahead of the North London derby tomorrow. He says the clubs new found power will leave Arsenal wanting at The Emirates tomorrow:

"We have way more power than we had last year, and we still have our pace and can play different kinds of games. Chadli, Paulinho and Capoue are all tall guys who have pace but physical power as well. Maybe we lacked that last year. But they have both. They make us stronger in both ways, in a skilful way too.’’

Tottenham have no new injury news for the game … with the only question over the availability of the three new signings at the club Erik Lamela, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen.

Spurs have however missed out on the ‘Bulgarian Gareth Bale’. Todor Nedelev was linked with Spurs last week, as well as North London rivals Arsenal.

However he will sign for Bundesliga side FSV Mainz next January.

Finally, and on site, we have asked whether Spurs have signed the best free-kick taker on the planet with the acquisition of playmaker Christian Eriksen from Ajax.
