Summer trialist at Arsenal nears a transfer away from Ligue 2

Reports suggest that SC Bastia are on the verge of snapping up Alharbi El Jadeyaoui.

Arsenal have been woeful in the transfer market this summer - and even the most ardent Gunner would struggle to argue with me on that fact.

The club have of course, as ever, been searching for the odd diamond in the rough. That has seen them snap up Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre, and offer trial spells to the occasional talent.

Sebastian Perez and Alharbi El Jadeyaoui have both been on trial at the club in recent weeks.

Perez, was denied a work permit, whereas El Jadeyaoui clearly did not do enough to impress the club this summer.

His one week trial ended without a contract offer - and he returned to his Ligue 2 outfit Angers.

The 27-year-old is a tricky midfielder with an eye for a pass, but considering his age, taking him on trial seemed an odd decision anyway from Wenger and co.

Upon his exit there was interest in his services from Premier League rivals Cardiff City and German outfit VfL Wolfsburg.

However, it is reported in France this week that the trialist will be playing top flight football this season, but will be staying in France.

Reports suggest that SC Bastia are on the verge of snapping up the talented Moroccan international from the Ligue 2 side.

He will join Serbian superstar Milos Krasic as a new signing at the ambitious club - who also have the likes of Arsenal flop Sebastian Squillaci and former PSG keeper Mickael Landreau at the Corsican club.

To say Arsenal have missed out on the player would be slightly exaggerating the point. A talented player yes, but as his trial no doubt proved, he is a class below the standard necessary to play for Arsenal.

But at an ambitious side in Ligue 1, with dreams of European qualification, he might have just found his level.

Will you be keeping tabs on El Jadeyaoui?
