All the latest team news and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…
As Manchester United prepare to face Liverpool tomorrow afternoon, they may have to do so without Wayne Rooney.
The Daily Mail has reported that the striker suffered a head injury in training this morning and left the session with a bandaged head.
David Moyes will hope Rooney is fit after his impressive performance in Monday’s game against Chelsea. And while the doubts will now service as to whether or not the England forward will play at Anfield tomorrow, it would be a huge surprise not to see him come kick-off.
Should Rooney be available, Moyes is likely to stick with the same side that drew with Chelsea.
The injured quartet of Rafael, Nani, Javier Hernandez and Jonny Evans are all likely to have to wait a little longer for a return to the match-day squad.
The left-back’s agent, Aleksandar Bursac, has confirmed that both the Turkish side and the Scottish champions are interested in signing his client.
“Alex favours Celtic because of the Champions League and the traditions of the club,” Bursac said.
“We hope that United recognise that letting him go on loan would be great for his development.”
Should the move happen, and if United allow him to play in Europe, Buttner will also be able to test himself against Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax in the coming months.
In other news, United have suffered a potential double-blow in their pursuit of new midfielders.
Reports claim the Premier League champions have had failed bids for both Daniele de Rossi and Ander Herrera in the last 24 hours, and had intended to return with improved offers. But de Rossi’s coach at Roma, Rudi Garcia, is confident the Italian midfielder will remain.
“He will stay here for the whole season and this is something that satisfies me a lot,” Garcia said.
We also ran a story earlier today revealing the claim from Guillem Balague that United have pulled out of talks for Herrera, as they are unwilling to pay his release-clause of €36million.
And so Moyes’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements continues. Although he may have better luck with defensive additions, with Marca reporting that he is interested in signing Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao.
The paper claims United will have to pay €20million to sign the left-back, and may have a decision to make as they continue to fail in their attempts to prise Leighton Baines away from Everton.
